LIFE at university is full of temptations – junk food, takeaways, alcohol, biscuits, midnight snacks. But after four weeks on a Slimpod, 19-year-old Sasha Manzanero went back to university in Manchester full of confidence that her view of food and exercise had changed for good. And she was right! “My life used to revolve around food,” she says. “I’d keep on eating until I felt sick. But now I don’t feel tempted at all. And I’ve dropped from a size 12 to a size 8 with ease.” Read Sasha’s remarkable story in her own words…

“When I was first offered the chance to have a Slimpod I didn’t think it would work. I’d tried everything to lose weight – even the dreaded cabbage soup diet – but nothing had worked. Why should this be any different?

“Admittedly it took a week or so to start to kick in but it has actually worked. Not only have I cut out snacking between meals, but I find myself getting up and doing exercise.  "There’s an exercise bike in the house and sometimes when I’m watching TV I get up on the bike and pedal away. I’ve never done that before. And now I’d rather walk than get a lift.

“In just two months I’ve lost 11lbs and I’ve achieved my goal of getting back in my favourite dress. That’s a drop of two sizes, because the dress is a size 8. To be honest, I still need to lose a couple more pounds before the dress is 100 per cent comfortable, but I know I will do it pretty easily.

“The amazing  thing  is that I’m not hungry and I don’t feel deprived in any way. In fact, I actually feel as if I’m eating more than I used to, but the difference is that what I eat know is good for me.

“I’m still eating the same amount, except it’s better for me and I don’t eat it all at once. I only eat half the pasta I make for myself, whereas before I’d eat it all until I
felt sick. At uni I’m surrounded by students snacking on crisps and biscuits and there’s always pizza in the fridge, but I know I can trust myself to keep away from things that aren’t good for me.

“My life revolved around food – but not now. I’ve had the odd day when I’ve fancied a bag of sweets and I’ve bought them. But I only had one or two before I realised that I didn’t want them. Every time I’m tempted now I listen to my Slimpod and the temptation goes away.

“Most of the time food doesn’t even cross my mind. As a student you have to find the cheapest meals you can and I used to find myself eating poor quality processed food. Now, thanks to my Slimpod, I only eat healthy food and most of it I prepare myself.

“I’ve discovered that preparing something like fresh turkey is great. Turkey is one of the cheapest meats for students and it’s a hardly fattening at all. I’ve also switched to brown rice rather than white for the first time, and the same with pasta.

“I’ve now finally lost the weight I put on last Christmas but this year I know I’ll be all right because far from putting weight on I know I’ll be losing a little bit more. I’ve got that dress to fit into! “

I WAS on the radio this morning reviewing the papers for LBC and as luck would have it, one of the news items was this continuing debate on whether certain items of food and drink should be taxed because of their high fat or sugar content. My view is that this 'Fat Tax' is unworkable and impractica...
