All your weight loss and slimming questions answered

Is Cognitive Hypnotherapy safe?

Yes. We use just a light trance which is similar to being sleepy or in a daydream and you already experience trance states throughout your normal day. For instance while you’re taking a bath and thinking about things that have happened during the day. We’ve used it without any problems for more than 10 years and our technique is very similar to one the NHS recommends, called "mindfulness."

Will I be aware of what’s happening?

You’ll be completely aware of what’s going on and if a fire alarm were to go off, you would easily be able to take yourself out of trance to respond.

What does it feel like?

It’s a little like daydreaming. Generally a very pleasant sensation where you are conscious of what is going on around you and what is happening throughout the session, but may choose to ‘drift off’ with your own thoughts from time to time. Most people comment on how relaxed they felt while listening. This feeling often continues for some time after the session is over, leaving you ready to continue your day.

Will I remain in control?

Yes, totally. Our voice conversations will relax you in such a way that you can retune your inner mind to think differently about food and exercise. You remain in total control at all times. Because the technique is so relaxing it is important that you do not listen to a download or a CD when you are driving or operating machinery.

Will I be put in to a deep sleep?

The level of trance needed for our technique to be effective is only a very light one, and one which you will be familiar with. Have you ever daydreamed? Been so absorbed in a book or film that you haven’t heard someone speak to you? Or driven a familiar route to find that at the end of it you don’t recall much of it? Well, this is the sort of trance we need, and sometimes you don’t even need to close your eyes to achieve it.

Will I remember what happens?

There’s no reason why you shouldn’t remember everything that’s said while you are listening to a Slimpod. However, in practice people often find they don’t recall everything straight away and different bits come back to them over time. If you think about it, in normal everyday conversations do you remember every word that is said?

I WAS on the radio this morning reviewing the papers for LBC and as luck would have it, one of the news items was this continuing debate on whether certain items of food and drink should be taxed because of their high fat or sugar content. My view is that this 'Fat Tax' is unworkable and impractica...
