Britain is the obesity capital of Europe
Brits are quick to criticise America for being the land of the overweight, but we should look in the mirror: An international report says the UK has the worst obesity rates in Europe. One in four Britons are so fat that their health is threatened, the report warns.
Across 31 European countries the average obesity rate is 15.5 per cent of the adult population. But Britain has the worst record with 24.5 per cent of adults being classified as obese, closely followed by Ireland with 23 per cent.
To put our health problem in context, countries like Italy and Romania have an obesity rate below 10 per cent. Particularly alarming are the statistics for children: One in eight British children are now overweight or obese. That horrifying figure reflects our changing lifestyles over the past few decades – the rise of junk food and the decline of sport and exercise in schools.
The extra costs that obesity places on the NHS are considerable at a time when we need every penny we have got. But at Thinking Slimmer we’re more concerned about the human toll – the way being overweight can sap your confidence, bring on depression, make your quality of life diminish.
We’re very proud of our Slimpods and what they have achieved for so many overweight people. But in all honesty, the latest figures on obesity came as no surprise to us because our best-selling Slimpod by far is Drop Two Dress Sizes Or More.
The majority of men and women who are overweight can do something about it pretty easily if they have the right help. Forget about expensive gastric band operations or costly diet foods, the way you are is largely determined by the way you think.
Retuning people’s minds to see food, drink and exercise differently is our mission. Literally changing the shape of the world.
